Khum is one of four siblings from a very impoverished family from Baglung in West Nepal. Khum’s father left home to seek seasonal employment in India, but had not come back for three years when Khum was admitted to the HRDC. The abandoned family was struggling for survival and Khum’s condition only made it more difficult for his mother. Due to his contracture on both knees, Khum was unable to walk, and had to crawl on all four to get around.
Khum came to HRDC through a referral from our regional centre in Baglung. Our doctors were able to successfully correct the complex condition, and although he’s knees will never bend properly, he is able to walk on his feet. Khum wants to become a doctor when he grows up, and hopes to one day work at HRDC.
Through HRDC’s education fund, we are sponsoring his education.
